An eventful July

July was a wonderful and eventful month at Bursaria, filled with opportunities for creativity, sensory exploration, social connection and learning. From special celebrations such as our Teddy Bear Picnic and Pyjama Week to engaging art and sensory experiences, the children enjoyed a month full of play, discovery and development.

 

We were delighted to welcome several new children to our Bursaria community, including new friends joining us in both the Billy Buttons and Waratah rooms. It has been wonderful to see them settle into their new environments, build trusting relationships with their educators and begin forming meaningful friendships with their peers. We are also looking forward to welcoming more new children in August and supporting them as they begin their journey with us.

 

Our Teddy Bear Picnic was a highlight of the month and a great success! The children were excited to bring their favourite plush toys from home to share with their friends and educators. We enjoyed a special afternoon tea together outdoors on the picnic rug, creating a relaxed and social experience for everyone.

 

The experience also provided opportunities for meaningful conversations about our favourite plush toys, including why we love them and how they can help us feel safe, comfortable and secure. These discussions supported the children’s emotional development and encouraged them to express their feelings and share personal experiences with others.

 

The children also enjoyed creating their own teddy bear artwork. They painted paper plates and then added eyes, ears and noses to create their very own teddy bears. Educators added a hanger to each creation so the children could proudly display their artwork.

 

Pyjama Week brought plenty of excitement and fun to the centre! Throughout the week, the children had the opportunity to attend Bursaria wearing their favourite pyjamas, while our educators joined in by wearing their PJs too.

 

This fun experience encouraged conversations between educators and children about bedtime routines, why we wear pyjamas, and the different styles and designs we enjoy. During group times, we explored the purpose of Pyjama Week in an age-appropriate way, supporting the children’s understanding through discussion, storytelling and shared experiences.

 

Art and craft experiences were an important part of our program throughout July. Some experiences emerged spontaneously from the children’s interests, while others were intentionally planned by educators to encourage creativity, exploration and imagination.

Through painting, collage and craft activities, the children had opportunities to experiment with different materials, colours and techniques while developing their fine motor skills and expressing their individual ideas.

 

Sensory play was another key focus throughout the month. These experiences provided children with opportunities to explore different textures, materials and sensations while developing their curiosity and problem-solving skills.

 

One of our favourite experiences involved creating a jelly car wash. The children worked alongside educators to prepare the jelly, which was then used to create an imaginative car wash experience. Through this hands-on activity, the children explored the unique texture of the jelly while engaging in imaginative and cooperative play.

 

Overall, July was a month filled with connection, creativity, exploration and learning. We are incredibly proud of the children’s enthusiasm and curiosity and look forward to continuing to provide meaningful experiences that support their development, confidence and sense of belonging at Bursaria.
